Terry Stark logged a 25-year military career between his active and reserve duty. Paralleling much of that has been a 40-year career in business and politics, with his final stop as president and chief executive officer of the California Association of Pest Control Advisers (CAPCA).
Now, he is stepping down after 10 years, leaving CAPCA a stronger and more influential organization, according to those who have worked with him.
“Terry has taken CAPCA to a whole new level with what he has accomplished in the years he has been there,” says Jackson Gualco of Sacramento, the organization’s contract lobbyist.
He cites Stark’s efforts to make CAPCA’s annual October conference a premier California agriculture event, as well as his effort to increase CAPCA’s funding base with industry sponsorships.
“The vision Terry brought to CAPCA has taken the association into a new era,” says Pest Control Adviser (PCA) Renee Rianda of Woodland, Calif. and a former CAPCA chair.
“Terry has raised the bar of professionalism for the organization and the members have followed that lead,” says Steve Beckley, Woodland, Calif., who worked as a CAPCA consultant alongside Stark. Beckley is a 35-year veteran of mostly California trade associations.
“CAPCA would not be in the position it is today if it were not for Terry Stark,” says Harry Peck of Visalia, Calif., a long- time CAPCA director. “His tenacity to get a job done for CAPCA is unparalleled.”
